The new year calls for minimizing and getting rid of clutter, and that applies to the Women’s Care Center also. Typically, the ladies take part in AM & PM chores daily and a deeper cleaning once a week. Recently, they turned the cleaning and minimizing into a fun Saturday “Purge and Surge” – instead of a yard sale, each lady placed items outside their door for others to come by and check out.

Everything from clothing to personal care items, shoes and purses – it was all placed in front of their rooms and it’s true what they say: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Of course, by the end of the day, it was fun to see how some items have been recycled over the years and passed on from girl to girl.
We also had some of the past graduates stop in to visit and pick up a few items to take with them. Even with the trading, everyone ended up a little more clutter-free and definitely with less than what they started with.
The ladies reflected on Colossians 3:2: “Set your minds on things above, not on things that are on earth.” When we are teachable and intentional, there are lessons each and every day – even on a Saturday morning with a “Purge and Surge.”
