Sarah* came to our Samaritan Inn homeless shelter six months ago with a broken-down vehicle and no job. Since she has arrived, she has been able to not only rekindle her relationship with her seven-year-old son, but she’s also found stability working a full-time job and is saving money!
In the process of trying to save money, she found herself continually pouring money into her vehicle, only to find out that it was breaking down every other week. Through the course of her six months here we have had several cars that we have tried to help her with, yet none have worked out as we had hoped.
She would come to me in tears at times and openly admit to struggling with security and safety while driving with her son in the car. She told me that she just never knew when the next break down was going to occur, and she thought the best option was to go out and purchase a vehicle and make payments. However, we try to do a budget with every client here and decided that was not the best idea for Sarah.
As we patiently waited, I received a phone call from a local pastor telling me that he had a vehicle available for a mom who needed it. My first thought was Sarah as she had been so patient, and we could not wait to give her the surprise of her life.
It is such a joy to see the relief on a mom’s face when she receives a gift that she knows will provide security and safety for her children. In addition, and most importantly, we love to see the way that God works in the lives of our families here.
We are so thankful for each and every one of you who pour into our ministry. If you wish to volunteer your time or partner financially, please reach out to our Samaritan Director, John Draxinger, at 352-396-8439.
