Recently we had our annual Christian Care Center’s Men’s Residence Retreat. This is a time for the men to break away from the center they reside in for 32 weeks, step away from all the classes, and spend some time with Lord at Lake Yale. It’s a time to rest, worship, and have some fun but most importantly it’s a time to be empowered by God.
This year’s theme was “More than Conquerors.” The idea is that we take the very weapon our enemy is trying to use to defeat us, and we use it to destroy him. The retreat consisted of about 60 men who are either current residents or former residents of the program who have battled with addiction. Where the enemy tried to use it to destroy us and our families, we are turning the tables and using it to destroy him.
Just about every man made a commitment to be more than a conqueror over the things that have been holding them down for years. Instead of allowing our struggles to destroy families through Christ, our families are going stronger; where the enemy wanted us to be ashamed of our past, we are now using our past as a testimony to empower others to find the strength and hope in Jesus Christ.
Some of the guys were even able to bring their sons on this retreat to witness to them about just what God can do! Just about every guy there made a public recommitment to the Lord and two men gave their lives to Jesus for the first time around the fire! We are so grateful for this opportunity because it was only possible through our communities’ donations.
