The ladies at the Women’s Care Center come from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances. Often, “rock bottom” looks different with each one. While each lady is grateful for the opportunity to take a time out and get healthy (spiritually, mentally and physically), they all show their gratitude in different ways.
For some, it’s the welcomed attitude of gratitude. For others, they demonstrate a grateful heart with a teachable spirit and renewed zeal for life. Recently, gratitude was expressed with a simple prayer before the evening meal. This lady was thankful that she had a stove to cook on and that she lived with a group of ladies that were actually excited to eat the meal that she had prepared. She took pride in being able to prepare a meal and serve her sisters. Not only was the meal delicious and enjoyed by everyone, it served as a reminder of being thankful for the basics.
There are times when the ladies may have been homeless prior to coming to the Women’s Care Center. Basics that are sometimes taken for granted may be: the ability to cook a meal (or even food to eat), a bed to sleep on, hot water to shower with, or even a clean change of clothes. May we never lose our attitude of gratitude, even for the basics… or take for granted what Jesus Christ has done for us!
