“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household” (Acts 16:31).
At the Christian Care Center’s Men’s Residence, we serve up to 31 men in our residential faith-based drug and alcohol program. By the time these men come to us they have pretty much damaged all their relationships, especially with their wives and children.
I often say this ministry doesn’t just serve the resident it serves their entire family. God can restore these men to be the godly fathers and husbands He intended for them to be. These men will have their families come to church throughout the week with them, in which they might not have otherwise been going.
Just recently we had a man with five children marry his fiancé after 30 days in the program. From there his family has been here week after week attending Wednesday night church and Sunday morning church. A few Sundays ago, three of this man’s daughters were baptized after accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
This man has been through a hard childhood of his own… which led to years of addiction… which led him to brokenness… which led him to our program… which led him and his family to salvation of the Lord! We know that for those who love God, He works all things together for the good.
We have another resident here who has three children. He has suffered with addiction for years and his children had to suffer for his choices as well. About a year ago, he was desperate for change; he didn’t want to die and leave his children fatherless due to drugs.
While here, his son’s living arrangement was disrupted time and time again. The young man was being shuffled from one family member to another and then to another. He was acting out when he finally got enrolled in school. And while this was all going on, our resident leaned on the Lord for guidance and strength while completing the program. He wasn’t going to let anything get in his way of building this relationship with God because he knew without it, it wouldn’t be long until he would find himself in the same predicament.
After completing the program, he didn’t rush out either. He got a job, got a car, got his son back, and moved into the Samaritan Inn. His son has been watching the Lord work in his dad’s life. He has been coming to church with his dad, he came on the men’s retreat with his dad, and he just went to youth camp with our church.
Just the other day our resident got a message from Pastor Cliff that his son had decided to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. This man’s brokenness led to him and his family’s salvation. The boy expressed how proud he is of his dad and how much he loves him!
When someone donates to this program, volunteers, or partners with us in one way or another, they are not just serving the resident but rather serving his entire family. It is truly amazing to see the fruit of the labor multiple through one’s family.
