Recently, we got the news that many of the buildings at First Baptist Crystal River were flooded after hurricane Helene.
I was blessed to see the quick and cheerful response to the call for help from of our Men’s Care Center seniors and graduates. After reading a Facebook post Saturday afternoon, we contacted the church for details and by 8:00 am on Sunday, we were on the road with a van full of willing volunteers, tools, and of course, snacks. Both the Men’s Care Center and the Samaritan Inn kitchen’s prepared bagged lunches, so there was enough to share.
As we worked, I paused and spoke to Sean Wright, another volunteer that made the trip,
“You know the parable of the talents, where God demands a return for His investment?”
“Yeah,” he said.
“Well, look at the return on His investment through the Christian Care Center in these men.”
We both smiled, and maybe wiped a tear, as we considered the goodness of God through our ministries.
It was a day of hard work helping to pull out carpet and remove damaged drywall from their youth building, but it was so rewarding to help in a small way after they had such a devasting experience. The congregation was weary as they experienced flooding after other storms as well.
We heard word that they were able to have their Sunday gathering in one of their meeting spaces, despite it being a work in-progress.
